"Being A Man In 2020": Meet Jay Christian

Updated: Jun 21, 2020

I was born in Brooklyn NY and raised in North Carolina. I am a Podcaster who also works for a steel corporation, and I have several other entrepreneurial endeavors on my plate as well. After a stent in prison, 2 divorces, a third marriage, and 6 children (three biological and three through marriage) I have finally become the best version of myself to date. Though I’m still learning and growing  as a man, I am very proud of who I’ve become. I'm living proof hard work and a positive mindset are tools in which can be used to reconstruct ANY life. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you’ve done. Opportunity awaits your arrival, and time and preparation are your greatest allies!

I come from less and was raised in a single parent home. Almost every concept I had of what it is to be a man was given to me by womanizers and street hustlers. I never really fit into that lifestyle, yet I thrived in it. Never really thought I had what it took to be a part of “mainstream America”, but I belonged there. I suffered an identity crises of sorts most of my life, never really knowing where I fit in. I sought comfort and reassurance in bed with many different women, and I've ruined every meaningful relationship I’d ever had with a woman. Some would say I was a mess because I was dealt a bad hand. That life isn’t fair, but life isn’t meant to be fair, it’s meant to be lived. I haven’t had it nearly as hard  as others I know. Many of them have overcome much greater obstacles than me, everyone’s struggles are different.

Being a man isn’t about how you start, but how you finish. It’s about the lessons you learn and how you apply that knowledge. Life is full of setbacks, but struggle is ordained. It builds character! What makes me a man in my opinion is my ability and willingness to regroup and press forward under any circumstance.
