African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian… Thug, Nerd, Gentleman… Gay, Straight, Trans… Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Evolutionist... Married, Single, Playing The Field... Rich, Poor, Social Media Famous… What makes a man? And who in the fuck is coming up with the definitions?
In the world today, there are so many stereotypes of what a man is… Stereotypes in which limits some, while eliminating others… Is it society? The church; temple; mosque? Did God create all these restrictions of what manhood looks like? Or was it man who interpreted what the Man said and ever since the male species has being trying to measure up to a unattainable profile?
So I ask again, what makes a man? And who in the fuck is coming up with the definitions? Is it the woman who is unsure of whom she is? The woman who is looking for a husband? Could it possibly be the woman who has come up with the ILLUSION she doesn’t need a man? Or finally, could it be the woman who wants to be a man?
I’m going to ask one more time, what makes a man? And who in the fuck is coming up with the definitions? Is it the man who is insecure with his own manhood? Is it the man who is overly secure with his manhood? Is it the white man who believes he Is better than the African American; Hispanic; and Asian man? Could it possibly be the man who has realized he loves a man? Or finally, could it be the man who was trained by a man who didn’t know what the fuck it takes to truly be a man?
What I know for sure is… Gender doesn’t create a man, it only labels a male as a man… Sexual preference doesn’t eliminate a man, it only labels and places him in a category of men… Religion doesn’t form a man, it only narrows his thinking as a man… It’s 2020 and if we are still boxing men or women into our perceptions and expectations, we are the ones who are fucked up… A man can only be defined by himself… If he is still struggling with whom he is in a world where the choices and paths are countless, he will die a boy… What makes a man? And who in the fuck are YOU to come up with the definitions?
Over the next 15 days, 15 strong, confident and truth-seeking men will share some of their struggles, accomplishments, and challenges of 2020… You don’t want to miss this, so make sure you check back tomorrow for our first day of revealing what it's like "Being A Man In 2020"…
