African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, Mid Eastern… Sophisticated, Poised, Quiet, Outspoken… Gay, Straight, Trans… Submissive, Strong, Independent, Soft, Hard… Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Free Spirited... Straight Hair, Kinky Hair, Short Hair, Long Hair, No Hair… Petite, Skinny, Thick, Plus Size… Married, Single, Playing The Field... High Heels, Flats, Sandals, Sneakers… Rich, Poor, Social Media Famous… What makes a woman? And who is coming up with the definitions?
In the world today, there are so many stereotypes of what a woman is… Stereotypes in which limits some, while eliminating others… Is it society? The church; temple; mosque? Did God create all these restrictions of what womanhood looks like? Or was it man who interpreted what the Man said and ever since the female species has being trying to measure up to an unattainable profile?
So I ask again, what makes a woman? And who is coming up with the definitions? Is it the man who is controlling/manipulative and wants a woman to bow to him? The man who is looking for his rib, yet his ribcage is bruised and broken? Could it possibly be the man who has come up with the ILLUSION a woman is inferior to him? Or finally, could it be the man who wants to be a woman?
I’m going to ask one more time, what makes a woman? And who is coming up with the definitions? Is it the woman who is insecure with her own womanhood? Is it “Becky with the good hair” or “Karen” who believes she Is better than the African American; Hispanic;Asian and Mid Eastern woman? Could it possibly be the woman who has realized she loves a woman? Or finally, could it be the woman who was trained by a woman who didn’t know what it takes to truly be a woman?
What I know for sure is… Gender doesn’t create a woman, it only labels a female as a woman… Sexual preference doesn’t eliminate a woman, it only labels and places her in a category of women… Religion doesn’t form a woman, it only narrows her thinking as a woman… It’s 2020 and if we are still boxing women or men into our perceptions and expectations, we are the ones who are truly screwed up… A woman can only be defined by herself… If she is still struggling with whom she is in a world where the choices and paths are countless, she will die a little girl… What makes a woman? And who in the fuck are YOU to come up with the definitions?
